Nothing beats the feeling of being a bronzed beauty. Unfortunately, our love for the sun is a bit one-sided. While spending a lot of time in the sun can give us the short-term benefits of radiant skin and that undeniable glow, it can create issues in the long run. Quicker aging, wrinkled skin, and sun spots could be in our future if we don’t take care of our skin today.
So the question is this—how can we enjoy the summer sun without stressing over sun-damaged skin? Here are a few tips to keep your skin healthy this summer.
Apply Sunscreen and Repeat
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that sunscreen is a very valuable tool to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. It’s recommended to buy sunscreen that is SPF 30 at minimum, as this provides the proper level of protection needed to keep your skin looking great. Getting into the habit of re-applying a new layer every few hours will do nothing but help.
Find a Way to Cover Up
Finding protection from the sun can mean any number of things: wide brimmed hats, sunglasses with a large frame, and protective clothing like a long-sleeved summer dress. However you choose to cover up, this can help provide some shelter for your skin from direct sunlight. It doesn’t make them completely protected, though. UV rays are persistent and can still affect your skin, even on a cloudy day.
Avoid the Midday Melt
If you’re an early riser or you only head outdoors in the late afternoon, you’re in luck. The UV rays are at their strongest and most damaging between 11am and 4pm. This is a great excuse to hang out at your favorite summer spot during these hours if you’re wanting to avoid the sun.
